Rolls Wood Group shortlisted for Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland

Rolls Wood Group are to be represented at this years' VIBE awards ceremony (Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland) held in Edinburgh on November 29th 2011. The VIBE Awards are hosted by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and invite businesses and organisations across the country who share their values to demonstrate what efforts they have made to help protect our environment.

Rolls Wood Group were promoted for consideration following a project led by their core Engineering Department who provide support and Testing facilities for all the Aero-derivative Gas Generators which pass through their Repair & Overhaul facilities in the UK.

The project was led by Mr Chanaka Li who is a Rotating Machinery Engineer with the company, and supported by the Test Bed Manager Mr David Shaw.  Through their findings and efforts, they have managed to consolidate a number of activities which take place when testing an Engine, and without compromise have managed to capture all the same information and data which is needed.

Mr Shaw stated that the project had been a great success, and considerably reduced their time on Test, as well leading to a fuel saving in the process. More than anything, the time saving was seen across the company as a huge benefit on a resource which is utilised to capacity for the majority of time.

Unfortunately the fuel savings have no monetary value attached to them as fuel costs continue to soar, but the real savings and content which SEPA has recognised through the project is the massive reduction in CO and downstream pollution which are prevalent in all combustion gasses derived from fossil based fuels.

Mr Li's specialist knowledge in this field has led to a projected saving of 5 Tonnes of CO per year from the Test Facility located at their Corporate headquarters on the site of John Wood Group plc at Greenwell Road, East Tullos in Aberdeen, and with high powered machines such as these consuming fuel at the rate of one litre per second this is a valuable saving in anybody's book !

Mr Keith Brady, Managing Director of Rolls Wood Group (Repair & Overhauls) Limited said "We hope that Chamaka and David enjoy their day in Edinburgh and every success in the competition."
