Rolls Wood Group ability to enhance component life by developing repair processes has been a major factor in reducing the cost of ownership to operators. Customers have benefited from the wide range of innovative repair processes developed in-house to compliment the repair schemes offered by the original equipment manufacturer. The Rolls-Royce range of Olympus Industrial gas generator engines was derived from the aero engine which powered the Avro Vulcan. Later developments were used in the Concorde SST and TSR2 aircraft.
The Olympus engines produce between 17½ and 27 megawatts of power and are used in power generation applications around the world. There are currently 11 offshore installations and 122 onshore.
Applications vary from open cycle gas turbine configurations to efficient combined cycle operations using waste heat recovery for district heating and can run on either distillate fuel, natural gas or both.
