Rolls Wood Group founded

Prime Mover Maintenance, Wood Group’s provider of repair and overhaul services for Avon engines, forms joint venture with Rolls-Royce to create Rolls Wood Group.

Pioneering business vision

Hugh Gibson, Rolls Wood Group’s Managing Director for the first 18 years of its history, plans a strategy to transform a single workshop business in Aberdeen into a market leading international turbine services provider.

Aberdeen facility houses additional service programmes

Rolls-Royce Avon engine business in East Kilbride and its RB211 & Olympus engine service units in Ansty transfer to Rolls Wood Group in Aberdeen.

1994

Repair & Overhaul capabilities expand

Rolls Wood Group's acquisition of GTC brings additional Avon & Olympus overhaul & repair programmes to the Aberdeen service centre

1999

Canadian capabilities added to portfolio

The acquisition of Avon & RB211 overhaul & repair programmes from Rolls-Royce Canada bring extra capabilities to Rolls Wood Group and establish a base in Canada.

2001

Rolls-Royce Avon new production line transfers to UK

Transfer of Rolls-Royce Canadian capability includes repair & overhaul business plus new build capability.

New engine type added to service capabilities

Rolls Wood Group acquires Rolls-Royce 501K/ 57x industrial engine business in US and workshop facilities in Texas and California.

2002 - Construction of world-class workshop facilities

Component repair units for RB211 and Avon gas turbines undergo upgrades to deliver advanced technology solutions for repair & overhaul of turbo-machinery.

2004

Consolidation of RB211 business in the UK

Engine service capabilities broaden at Aberdeen facility.

2008

International growth - Asia Pacific

Focusing on the increasing customer demand for in-country capability, Rolls Wood Group creates joint venture in Malaysia. The agreement provides repair & overhaul services for engines owned by Petronas and its affiliated companies.

Consolidation of 501K business

US facility for engine repairs opens in Houston.

2009

International team - international growth

With 500 people worldwide in the UK, US and Malaysia, Rolls Wood Group achieves £150 million in sales.

2010

Joint venture anniversary celebrations

Rolls Wood Group marks 20 years of continual growth and business success.

Enhanced service capability

Rolls Wood Group enhances Avon repair and overhaul by delivering Avon 200 development services. Rolls Wood Group expands fleet of RB211 engines undergoing overhaul.
