Turbine Blade Refurbishment

Turbine blades frequently need to be refurbished as a result of service conditions leading to problems such as wear on the interlocks and abutment faves, thermal erosion, untwist, blocked cooling holes, corrosion and overaging.

Interlock/Outer Platform Recovery

Our OEM approved latest hardfacing interlock material has been proven to consistently deliver superior performance and significant increases in time between overhauls (TBO) for engines used in all fields of operation. It delivers excellent erosion and oxidation resistance characteristics using optimised Ta+Al+Cr contents with no Ti additions. W, Hf, Ta & Re high melting point elements are used which are considered to be the most effective strengthening additions for these types of applications. This material is designed to be applied easily using conventional techniques with a yield rate of 99%.

Microstructural Recovery

Our proprietary Recovery Heat Treatment Process is used to fully recover turbine blades microstructures back to the as-new condition. This service is considered to be vital to the refurbishment process and is carried out as standard on turbine blades. RWG is the industry leader in blade recovery heat treatment worldwide with more than 6000 blades sets successfully refurbished to date.

Advanced Coatings

Surface protection of turbine blades is key to reducing repair costs, keeping downtime to a minimum and allowing turbines to operate more efficiently. The EC&T Division uses the latest OEM approved advanced aluminide and platinum-modified aluminide coatings to protect blades.

Component Repair

The Rolls Wood Group Component Repair Division was established in November 1992 to provide a dedicated component repair service for the Rolls Wood Group engine Projects. The facility provides an in-house capability for over 90% of the repair processes required for the Rolls-Royce RB211, Avon, Olympus and 501 gas generators.

Before & after HP NGV's

The Component Repair Division operates from 2 site locations in Aberdeen, Scotland (Wellheads and Kirkhill) and is designed around a 'cellular production' concept, with 3 distinct production zones established to enhance the quality and turn-times of the components being processed.

The Wellheads site incorporates approximately 22,000 sq feet of floor space and the Kirkhill site covers a space of 14,000 sq feet.

The Repair Division Capabilities are as follows:
